Col. Tyler J. Oxley is a native of the Pacific Northwest. He was commissioned an infantry officer through Army ROTC upon graduation from Gonzaga University in 1996.
Col. Oxley’s education includes a Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts from Gonzaga University. His military education includes the Infantry Officer Basic Course, Mechanized Leaders Course, Signal Officer Transition Course, Signal Officer Advanced Course, Combined Arms and Services Staff School, U.S. Army Command and General Staff College, Joint and Combined Warfighting School, Airborne School, Army Knowledge Management, Defense Support to Civil Authorities, Joint Cyber Operations Planners Course and Army Basic Space Cadre.
His initial assignment was as an infantry platoon leader with the 1st Battalion, 26th Infantry, 1st Infantry Division in Schweinfurt, Germany. Following the Signal Officer Transition, he was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 7th Field Artillery and deployed to Kosovo in support of Operation Joint Guardian.
In 2001, Col. Oxley was assigned to the 3rd Infantry Division and deployed to Bosnia-Herzegovina as the G6 operations officer. Upon return, he deployed to Kuwait for Operation Desert Spring with the division’s 3rd Brigade. He subsequently assumed a signal company command and deployed for Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF) with the division’s 1st Brigade.
Following OIF, he was assigned as the assistant professor of military science at Central Washington University. In 2008, Col. Oxley returned to Germany as the 2nd Cavalry Regiment’s S6 and deployed to OIF. Following the deployment, he was assigned as the executive officer of the 44th Expeditionary Signal Battalion in Schweinfurt. He attended the Command and General Staff College in 2010 and, upon graduation, was assigned to the Mission Command Training Program (MCTP) as a knowledge management instructor to division, corps and Army-level staffs. This was followed by assignment as the CIO/G6 for the 20th CBRNE Command at Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland.
Upon completion of the Joint and Combined Warfighting School in 2015, Col. Oxley reported to U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM) in Stuttgart, Germany, and was assigned as the J63 plans and operations chief. He was then selected as AFRICOM’s first cyber operations division chief, J36.
Returning stateside in 2018, he was assigned to the 32nd Army Air and Missile Defense Command (AAMDC) at Fort Bliss, Texas, as the CIO/G6. In this capacity, he deployed to Qatar in support of Operation Spartan Shield. In May 2021, he was selected to serve as the deputy commanding officer of the 94th AAMDC, Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, Hawaii. He transitioned to the command’s CIO/G6 in August 2022. Col. Oxley was assigned as the chief of staff on June 1, 2025.
His awards and decorations include the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal with oak leaf cluster, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal with five oak leaf clusters, the Expert Infantryman Badge, Senior Space Cadre Badge and Parachutist Badge, among others. He is married with two children.
