ANSBACH, Germany — Soldiers assigned to U.S. Army Garrison Ansbach changed their unit patches from Army Materiel Command to 7th Army Training Command in a ceremony held Feb. 19 at the Von Steuben Community Center on Bismarck Kaserne.

Brig. Gen. Steven Carpenter, 7th ATC commander, led a ceremony that included Garrison Commander, Col. Aaron Southard, and Garrison Command Sergeant Major, Command Sgt. Maj. Michael Seelow.

The re-patching was prompted by an execute order directed by the Secretary of the Army in January 2025.

EXORD 123-25 “Update to U.S. Army Installation Management Structure,” addresses how the U.S. Army is implementing changes to its installation management structure.

The updates focus on streamlining decision-making by empowering senior commanders at Army installations. The changes aim to reduce bureaucracy, improve efficiency, and clarify responsibilities across the Army installation management framework.

In the past, Installation Management Command-Europe (IMCOM-E) and USAG Ansbach had a support relationship with U.S. Army Europe-Africa (USAREUR-AF). IMCOM-E and USAG Ansbach were in Direct Support.

Now IMCOM-E and USAG Ansbach have a command relationship and are under the tactical control (TACON) of USAREUR-AF. More specifically, the Senior Responsible Officer (SRO) will exercise a command authority over Army installations. The Commanding General of the 7th Army Training Command is the SRO for USAG Ansbach, USAG Bavaria and USAG Stuttgart.

Here are the key takeaways affecting USAG Ansbach:

  • Increased Command Authority: The Commanding General of the 7th Army Training Command is the SRO for USAG Ansbach. The SRO will have greater tactical control over USAG Ansbach operations.
  • Uniform Policy Adjustment: Soldiers assigned to USAG Ansbach operations will wear the 7th ATC unit insignia to reinforce unity and mission alignment.
  • Quality of Life Prioritization: The Army will refine policies to ensure installation resources focus on improving Soldier and family support services.

While a lot has changed, including patches, what hasn’t changed is the mission and priorities. USAG Ansbach leadership remains focused on caring for one another, our teammates, and those we serve.
