There will be more connections from Ławica, but it will be much... quieter

The plans are reported by "Głos Wielkopolski". They were presented during the Tour Salon trade fair. The announcements were made by the president of the airport and a representative of Ryanair.
The carrier's Poznań base plans to completely replace its fleet with modern Boeing 737-8200 "Gamechanger" aircraft in the coming years. This process will be implemented gradually, and all currently stationed aircraft will be replaced with new models within a few years. The new aircraft are to generate significantly less noise.

"Currently, the latest B737 model is the fourth aircraft in the regular fleet at Poznań Airport. It is much quieter. Especially at night, the noise level is 30-40 percent lower than the B737s manufactured 15 years ago. In addition, they emit 20 percent less carbon dioxide" - describes Alicja Wójcik-Gołębiowska, Ryanair Country Manager, quoted by the daily.

The airport's CEO, Grzegorz Bykowski, also announced an increase in the number of flights on selected routes. Ryanair planes will fly more frequently to Malaga, Palermo, Thessaloniki, Alicante and Rome, among others. New destinations and more connections in the winter season are also expected, but details will be revealed soon. Additionally, the airport is planned to be expanded.

"From November, the main hall will be rebuilt, where new shops, new formats and catering facilities will be created. New luggage scanning machines will be installed, thanks to which it will not be necessary to unpack hand luggage. Thanks to this, security control will be faster. At the beginning of next year, we will present the concept of terminal expansion, which we will implement within the next 4 years" - announced Grzegorz Bykowski, President of the Management Board of Poznań-Ławica Airport.

In Poznań we will feel the magic of Christmas this year already in November

In just over a month, the Poznań Bethlehem will start.

This year, Bethlehem Poznańskie will focus its attractions mainly on two locations: the Poznań Convention Center and Wolności Square. It is already known that the event on Wolności Square will start on November 16 and will last until January 6, 2025.

The second fair, at the Convention Centre, will also open on November 16, and the attractions there will be available until December 22. We will have to wait for the details of both events.

New look for Słowackiego Street

The children built their own version of the street with LEGO bricks, and now the work on the real version has been completed. This is what the changed route on Jeżyce looks like

As the city reminds us, students of primary school no. 36 "designed" a new look for Słowackiego Street between Kraszewskiego and Wawrzyniaka a few years ago. There was supposed to be a lot of greenery, colorful sidewalks, and space. First, the children transferred their visions onto computer screens, and then they built it with LEGO bricks. - The projects created as a result of the workshops were taken into account when developing the target changes to Słowackiego Street - informs the Municipal Roads Authority.

The renovation itself took place last year, and colorful graphics on the pavement appeared in mid-2024. They were created by the MURALL studio. - The street has gained a completely new, green face. Residents can use wide and comfortable pavements that are not blocked by parked cars - says Filip Schmidt, chairman of the Jeżyce Housing Estate Council. - The area around the school has also become safer and quieter. A raised square was created there, which effectively slowed down vehicle traffic. New greenery and geometric patterns that covered the area near the entrance to the school add color - he adds.

There were 12 new trees, 1,900 shrubs, perennials and ornamental grasses. The whole thing cost almost 3 million zlotys. The money came from, among others, revenues from the Paid Parking Zone and a budget amendment by councilor Łukasz Mikuła.

This week the Ukrainian national team will play at ENEA Stadium in Poznan

Tickets for the match are now on sale.

On October 11, at the Poznań stadium, the Ukrainians will face the Georgian national team in the Nations League. According to Radio Poznań, around 15 thousand tickets have been sold for the match so far. Tickets are still available and cost from 45 to 300 PLN.

While tickets are not very popular among Ukrainians, it is different for Georgians. Several thousand of them will come to Poznań.

Due to the war taking place on the territory of the country, the Ukrainian national team has been playing matches outside its homeland since 2022.

Poznań's holiday record was broken. The city was under siege

We were visited mainly by Germans and Americans.

Back in August, we reported that according to the international company, which monitors hotel occupancy worldwide, Poznań hotels recorded the highest holiday occupancy in history in July, at over 70 percent. It turns out that the record results were maintained throughout the holidays. Radio Poznań reports on this. As it was determined, the largest number of tourists came to us from Germany - 30 percent, and in second place were Americans - 16 percent.

Of course, this is related to the presence of the US Army command in Poznań, but we also have payment card data and we can see that the largest number of private tourists appear precisely during the holidays, when spending on private cards is the highest," commented Jan Mazurczak, president of the Poznań Local Tourist Organization, in an afternoon interview with Radio Poznań, noting that he was talking about families and friends of soldiers.

Third place among foreign tourists visiting Poznań was taken by the British.

The mayor of Poznań, Jacek Jaśkowiak, also commented on the matter on WTK Television in August. " If we were to compare hotel occupancy in Poznań during the summer months, it has never been so high. Poznań is a congress and business city, but it turns out that in this area we have very large increases - hotel occupancy at the level of 70 percent," he says. " We have reasons to be proud, because many people come to Poznań and are delighted with how the city looks today - twice as much greenery in the strict city center," he emphasized.

Major traffic disruptions this Sunday

As reported today, preparations for the 23rd Poznań Marathon are nearing their end. Over 4.5 thousand people are preparing to take part, and registration is still ongoing. The start list for the Poznań Five 5 km race is also filling up.

For the first time, the 23rd Poznań Marathon will feature a competition for the Polish Academic Cup in the Marathon named after Janusz Grzeszczuk, an outstanding runner, coach and sports activist who died last year. Students up to 30 years of age, PhD students, PhD school students and full-time employees of universities can take part in the classification.

"The winner of the classification will receive a cash prize of PLN 5,000. People who meet the criteria and want to join this classification when registering for the 23rd Poznań Marathon should select the option "Academic Polish Cup in the Janusz Grzeszczuk Marathon" visible in the registration form. The organizer of the Academic Polish Cup in the Marathon is the Academic Sports Association in Poznań. More information about this classification and its patron can be found on the website of the 23rd Poznań Marathon" - inform the organizers.

"We observe that every year the largest group of runners in our Marathon are people aged 30-39. I hope that the Polish Academic Cup will improve the turnout in the youngest classification. We are also keeping our fingers crossed for the most experienced runners. As many as 39 of them have completed all editions of the Poznań Marathon," says Łukasz Miadziołko, director of the 23rd Poznań Marathon.

The running event also means a lot of difficulties on the city streets. The route of the 23rd Poznań Marathon is the same as in previous editions. At 9:00 a.m. after the start on Grunwaldzka Street, the competitors will set off towards Enea Stadium. They will head along Bułgarska and Bukowska Streets towards Ławica Airport. The next kilometres of the route will run along Złotowska, Owcza and Cmentarna Streets, before returning to Grunwaldzka Street and heading through Raszyn to Hetmańska Street, which will lead the participants to Rondo Starołęka. Then the Marathon runners will go to Poznań Rataje, and then they will run near Lake Malta and the Cathedral. Later on the route, the runners will visit the Old Town and the picturesque Sołacz. The last 10 kilometres will run along the streets of Niestachowska, Św. Wawrzyniec, Polska, Bułgarska and Grunwaldzka, from which, near the Baltic Sea, the competitors will turn into the Fairgrounds to finish at St. Mark's Square.

Drivers should expect significant difficulties in these places. As Filip Borowiak, spokesman for POSiR, informs, on October 13, longitudinal traffic will be closed on the marathon route. The race route will be closed to vehicular traffic from 7:45 to 16:00, and additionally Grunwaldzka Street on the section from Szylinga to Roosevelta will be closed from 06:00. On individual sections, the route will be opened to motorists, and its full opening will take place after the last participant of the marathon has run. In addition, special locks will be created for drivers.

All information can also be found on the ZTM website. As usual, we will remind you about it during the weekend.

Iconic shoes exhibition at Stary Browar

The Pop Culture Gallery in Stary Browar will host a unique exhibition called "Sneakers Unboxed: Studio to Street". It is the result of cooperation between the Poznań trade and art centre and the London Design Museum. The exhibition will present the phenomenon of shoes, which have grown from utilitarian objects to cultural icons and collectibles. It will be available for viewing from 10 October.

Archival models, limited editions, collector's "white crows" - all of this will be available for viewing at the exhibition in Stary Browar. As its organizers emphasize, it is a real treat not only for declared sneaker lovers, but all users of iconic sports shoes. The sponsor of the exhibition is the PRM brand.

The exhibition at Stary Browar will present the history of sneakers and their influence on culture and design. There will be several hundred exhibits: the first products of the biggest international brands, pairs from the most sought-after collaborations, models created by fashion designers, innovative prototypes, as well as films, photos and other materials.

Initially, sneakers were designed exclusively for professional athletes. From the pitches and tracks, these shoes were taken to the streets by young people from large cities and adapted as an element of personal style, a symbol of belonging to subcultures, a tool for expressing individuality. The growing demand and changing status of sneakers were picked up by manufacturers. Luxury brands and avant-garde designers began to create their sneakers - explain the creators of the exhibition.

The "Performance" section of the exhibition will take viewers behind the scenes of the design process for this type of shoe and the most important turning points in this field.

The third section of the exhibition, under the slogan "Sustainability", presents the search for ways to limit the negative effects of mass production and consumption. The key issues will be new materials, recycling and upcycling, but also striving for changes in consumer awareness. A symbolic invitation from the curators and organizers of the exhibition in Stary Browar to this revolution will be a point in the gallery where you will be able to return a used pair of sneakers. A work of art will be created from the collected shoes, and the audience will become its co-author.

The exhibition "Sneakers Unboxed: Studio to Street" will open with a vernissage on October 10, at 7:00 p.m. The project, prepared in cooperation with the Design Museum in London and in partnership with the PRM brand, is part of a long-term program of exhibitions at the Pop Culture Gallery @Stary Browar (formerly Galeria na Dziedzińcu) dedicated to pop culture and fashion. The event was held under the Honorary Patronage of the Mayor of Poznań.

Admission to the vernissage is free. From October 11, tickets for the exhibition at the price of PLN 40 will be available at the entrance to the exhibition. There is a promotion for pupils, students and seniors (from Tuesday to Thursday 1+1 free). On one Tuesday a month, it will be possible to enter for free.

The exhibition will be available until March 10, 2025.

More information about the exhibition can be found on the Stary Browar website and on Facebook .
