Daegu, South Korea - The 19th ESC command team, Brig. Gen. Jin H. Pak and CSM Elfonso Green hosted a cake cutting ceremony at the Camp Carroll Grill 303 Dining Facility on July 16th, to celebrate the 19th ESC’s 60th birthday.
"Today, we’re celebrating the 60th birthday of 19th ESC, celebrating 60 years of excellence here on the Korean peninsula on behalf and in support of the U.S.-ROK alliance." said BG Pak before the cake cutting ceremony.
For the past 60 years, the 19th Expeditionary Sustainment Command has played a pivotal role in defending South Korea.
The 19th General Support Command was activated in Seoul, on July 15, 1964. In 1972 it was relocated to Daegu as a part of the consolidation of Eighth Army Support and Depot Commands. Finally, on December 16, 2005 the unit was re-designated as the 19th Expeditionary Sustainment Command.
“Ever since the end of Korean War, for the past 60 years, we maintained a steady presence and provide excellence in terms of logistics and sustainment support,“ Pak added.
Headquartered in Daegu, Republic of Korea, the 19th Expeditionary Sustainment Command is the largest forward-deployed multi-component ESC in the U.S. Army.
The 19th ESC commander serves as the senior officer responsible for Area IV, which is the southern hub for sustainment and power projection on the peninsula.
Additionally, the 19th ESC's outreach efforts through community relations programs such as the Korean American Friendship Circle and the USFK Good Neighbor Program, combined with continued relationships with local governments, help promote partnerships and cultural understanding between 19th ESC and the surrounding communities.
