Remembered for his exceptional meritorious service and dedication to the United States Army, Major General (Maj. Gen.) Anthony W. Potts, who formerly served as program executive officer for Command, Control, Communications-Tactical (PEO C3T), was posthumously honored with the Order of Saint Michael Gold Award at the 2024 Army Aviation Mission Solutions Summit on April 24, 2024.
Ms. Jennifer Potts was also recognized receiving the Order of Saint Michael Silver Award for her significant and long-lasting contributions to the Army and Aviation communities. The awards were presented by Maj. Gen. Retired Wally Golden, vice president of the Army Aviation Association of America, in commemoration of the exceptional leadership displayed by the Potts family.
The Order of St. Michael recognizes individuals who have demonstrated the highest standards of integrity and moral character, display an outstanding degree of professional competence, and have served the United States Army Aviation or civilian aviation community with distinction.
“It is an honor to recognize Jennifer and remember the legacy of Maj. Gen. Potts,” said Mark Kitz, PEO C3T. “His 27 years of dedication, and the service of Ms. Potts, reflect immense leadership, excellence, and devotion in support of the Army, Army Aviation and the United States of America.”
As a Maj. Gen. and former program executive officer for C3T, Potts was critical in supporting the advancement and design of the Army’s network, reducing its complexity and enabling the speed and lethality required for large-scale combat operations.
Potts led PEO C3T’s acquisition workforce and management of 46 key acquisition programs, providing outstanding leadership in delivering the hardware and software required to provide Army formations with an expeditionary, mobile and simple-to-use network. Under his oversight, PEO C3T leveraged persistent experimentation and Soldier feedback from ongoing operations, exercises, and units fielded with modernized capabilities. He postured the Army to deliver a data-centric optimized network design for a division fighting formation in support of the future Army.
Prior to leading PEO C3T, Maj. Gen. Potts served with distinction as the PEO for Soldier from January 2018 until June 2022, supporting worldwide operations including Operation Freedom’s Sentinel and Operation Inherent Resolve. During his tenure, Potts was instrumental in the successful design, development, testing, and evaluation of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU), which was ultimately approved by the Chief of Staff of the Army via the Army Uniform Board. In addition, Potts paved the way for the Soldier Integration Facility (SIF), created as a gathering space for stakeholders from around the enterprise to innovate and integrate equipment.
In prior assignments, Maj. Gen. Potts served as the Deputy Commanding General of U.S. Army Research, Development, and Engineering Command and Senior Commander of Natick Soldier Systems Center. He served as acting Deputy for Acquisition and Systems Management, PEO Missiles and Space; as Director of Terminal High-Altitude Area Defense and Army/Navy Transportable Radar Surveillance, Sustainment Management Office, Redstone Arsenal; and within many other positions.
Ms. Jennifer Potts retired from federal service as the deputy project manager for Army Data and Analytics Platforms with PEO Enterprise Information Systems (EIS), overseeing a portfolio of programs that provide the Army with modern data and decision-support tools and platforms. She also served as the product support director for PEO EIS’s Defensive Cyber Operations (DCO) project office.
Earlier in her career, Potts served in Army Acquisition and as deputy product director in PEO Aviation, where she helped lead a portfolio of 23 non-standard, rotary wing aircraft programs outside of the regular DOD inventory. During her time within the Department of the Army, Potts was assistant product manager supporting a fleet of varied rotary wing aircraft and their condition-based monitoring systems.
Not only has Potts worked within the operational combat environment of Afghanistan and Iraq, she also served with 19 international partners and all of the DOD component services, as well as the special operations community and North Atlantic Treaty Organization.
Induction into the Order of Saint Michael recognizes those whose contributions stand out among the rest. The ceremony and presentation of awards celebrated the past successes of the Potts' and recognized how their achievements will continue to strengthen the Army for years to come.
