FORT NOVOSEL, AL. – Ronald Reagan, 40th president of the United States, once said, “We can’t help everyone, but everyone can help someone.” The Fort Novosel Religious Services office and Army Community Services have placed two Angel Trees on post to help take care of our own throughout the holiday season.
Chaplain (Maj.) Scott Kennis, coordinator of the Angel Tree project said that the Angel Trees are set up in the lobby of the Soldier Service Center, building 5700 and at the PX that contain 67 angels from active-duty families that the community can adopt for the holidays. All the children on the trees have been vetted through Army Community Service and their unit.
The trees will be up from Tuesday, November 21st until Monday, December 11th. Community members can visit the tree and select an angel. On each tag, it lists the age and gender of a military child and gives a suggested gift for that child. The unwrapped gifts should be returned to the tree, along with the tag, by Monday, December 11th.
Kennis said, “The Angel Tree and the Holiday Food Assistance program are two exceptional programs supported by the garrison as a way to show love and support to military families during the holiday season.”
Units will pick up the gifts and food vouchers on December 14th and 15th to distribute to their families.
