SuperShuttle to provide service at Fort Bragg

FORT BRAGG, N.C. - Frequent travelers on Fort Bragg, who normally drive to catch flights at Raleigh-Durham International and Fayetteville Regional airports, now have an option.

The nation's largest shared ride service provider, SuperShuttle is bringing its services to the Fort Bragg. The service will offer Soldiers, their Family members and the rest of the post community an option to ease the pains associated with airport travel.

"SuperShuttle approached Fort Bragg in assisting with mass movement of personnel for official and leisure travel to and from Fayetteville Regional and RDU," explained Tim Shea, installation transportation chief, who pointed out that he officially does not endorse the company. "They will also assist in supporting a community effort for sustainable transportation, Goal Team 1.5."

Shea said the service would be available for military members, their Family members and Department of Defense civilians and contractors. He pointed out that it would also provide speedy entrance through the post's access control points.

Shea added that there are other benefits provided with the service.

"It will reduce the cost of parking, fuel and maintenance on government non-tactical vehicles or privately-owned vehicles," he said. "It also gives customers their time back for work or pleasure during the ride, which reduces stress and allows time for purchasing items from on-post

establishments, which supports Directorate of Family, Morale, Welfare and Recreation programs."

Shea said the current plan is to have a Supershuttle pick-up and drop-off point located at Fort Bragg shuttle stop Number 11, which is in the North Post exchange and commissary area and alternative transportation Multi-modal transfer station.

Although there is a $70 fee for the service for the first passenger, each additional passenger can ride for $5 each, in accordance with SuperShuttle's Summer Lifts promotional program. Overall, the program is of no cost to Fort Bragg.

"SuperShuttle is pleased to offer this service to Fort Bragg and hopes to add service to additional military bases in the near future," said Ken Testani, SuperShuttle International's senior vice-president of marketing and sales. "We believe that the Summer Lifts promotional $5 additional passenger fares and double frequent flyer miles will give military Families a break this summer as they plan their summer vacations."

Shea said the SuperShuttle service is not a solution to the post's transportation concerns, but it is a viable option.

"There is not one solution for Fort Bragg's growing transportation requirements," he said. "By using multiple disciplines, such as airport shuttles, post shuttles Fayetteville Area System of Transit buses, van-pooling and future concept high-occupancy vehicle lanes at the post's ACPs, Fort Bragg is better able to handle the current 140,000 vehicles that enter and exit the post every day."

Shea said the added benefit is reduced congestion, improvements in air quality, carbon emissions and health, due to walking, go along with a reduction in stress levels.
