FREEDOM FEST -- Fort Novosel celebrates nation’s independence June 30

FORT NOVOSEL, Ala. -- Fort Novosel will host its annual Freedom Fest June 30 from 4-9 p.m. at its festival fields.

The event will feature food, fun activities for the whole family, one of the best fireworks displays in the Wiregrass and musical guests, including headliner Tag Team of “Whoomp! (There it is) fame, according to Fort Novosel Directorate of Family, and Morale, Welfare and Recreation officials.

Other musical guests include Sleepy Head, Rock Mob and Hunter Clark, officials added.

People without valid military identification do not need to get a visitor’s pass to attend Freedom Fest if they arrive between 4-9 p.m. June 30. However, they will need a valid stateside driver's license or ID to present at the gate for entry, according to Fort Novosel Directorate of Public Safety officials.

People who would like to visit at other than the above times can obtain passes online at the Fort Novosel website (https://home.army.mil/novosel/index.php/visit), or in person at the visitor control centers located at the Daleville and Ozark gates.

DPS reminds visitors that Fort Novosel will accept STAR ID and standard state-issued driver’s licenses or identification cards from all U.S. States and territories as proof of identity.

When obtaining a visitor’s pass, applicants with a state-issued driver’s license or identification card marked “Not Valid for Federal Purposes”, “Federal Limits Apply”, or other similar language must verify their identity by providing a second form of identification from the following documents.

* Valid, unexpired United States passport.

* Certified birth certificate.

* Consular Report of Birth Abroad (Form FS-240, DS-1350, or FS-545).

* Valid, unexpired Permanent Resident Card (Form I-551) issued by the Department of Homeland Security, or Immigration and Naturalization Service.

* Unexpired employment authorization document issued by DHS (Form I-766 or Form I-688B).

* Unexpired foreign passport with a valid, unexpired U.S. visa affixed, accompanied by the approved I-94 form documenting the applicant’s most recent admittance into the United States.

* Certificate of Naturalization issued by DHS (Form N-550 or N-570).

* Certificate of Citizenship issued by DHS (Form N-560 or N-561).

If the applicant’s name has changed from the name displayed on the document presented to verify identity and date of birth, certified documents verifying this change are also required, eg., marriage certificate, adoption, court order.

DPS further reminds Freedom Fest guests that certain items are prohibited from being brought to the event.

* No coolers, tote bags or backpacks. Medical and baby care items are allowed.

* No pets. Service dogs that are properly identified and credentialed are allowed.

*No fireworks.

* No glass containers.

* No weapons. This includes guns, knives, pepper spray and electric stun devices.

* No bicycles, scooters, roller blades, hover boards, skateboards or unicycles.

“Last year’s event was a huge success with over 12,000 patrons enjoying food, fun and fireworks on post. Fort Novosel is excited to celebrate our nation’s independence in a big way for 2023. Freedom Fest will include family fun activities such as bounce houses, an obstacle courses, free ice cream, military static displays and tons of craft vendors,” said Chris Mendez, MWR marketing director.

“Food vendors and food trucks will be on site to provide various festival and traditional food items, as well as refreshment options that are sure to please. Live entertainment will continue throughout the day and the celebration will conclude with one of the best fireworks displays in the Wiregrass, beginning promptly at 9 p.m.,” he added. “Mark your calendars, make plans, tell a friend, tweet it, share it, and join us for Freedom Fest 2023 Friday, June 30, at the Festival Fields on Fort Novosel!”
