ABERDEEN PROVING GROUND, Md. — APG leaders, Soldiers and family members gathered in the Myer Auditorium to attend the 2023 APG and U.S. Army Communications-Electronics Command Best Warrior Competition Award Ceremony, May 12, 2023.

BWC is an event conducted annually by the U.S. Army Major Commands to select the Noncommissioned Officer of the Year and Soldier of the Year, and to provide competitors for the Army-level competition. Tenant organizations select the most competent and best qualified NCOs and Soldiers to compete at the APG BWC. This event is designed to promote "esprit de corps" throughout APG and recognize NCOs and Soldiers who demonstrate commitment to the Army values and embody the warrior ethos.

Participating NCOs and Soldiers were graded for a cumulative score of 600 points in the following areas: weapons range, Army Combat Fitness Test, obstacle course, written exam, land navigation and administrative board.

CECOM Chief of Staff Col. Joshua Trimble hosted the event and provided opening remarks.

“If you were able to see all of the Soldiers out there this week, then you were reminded of why we’re here,” he said. “[The Army is] here to win and winning matters. There’s no computer simulation that is going to ensure that we can defeat our enemies. This week [Soldiers and NCOs] had to actually show up and compete against others who also wanted to win.”

Trimble ended his remarks with a final poignant statement, “We call these awards the Best Warrior Competition because it demonstrates our Army still has the best warriors.”
