FORT KNOX, Ky. – The wife of Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear traveled to Fort Knox April 21 for Purple Up Day to honor the Month of the Military Child.

First Lady Britainy Beshear met with Fort Knox Garrison Commander Col. Lance O’Bryan and Command Sgt. Maj. Sherman Waters upon her arrival to Fort Knox Middle High School. A group of students then guided her around the school, which included watching performances in a school talent show.

Following her stop at FKMHS, Beshear was given a student-led tour of Scott Intermediate School. She watched students enjoying Purple Up Day festivities such as cornhole, scooter races and gaga ball, and also visited the library to see the school’s book fair.

The Month of the Military Child was first established in 1986 to recognize military children and their contributions and service. Purple Up Day serves as an opportunity for community members to wear purple and demonstrate support for military children.
