CAMP HENRY, South Korea – The Sustainer Grill Warrior Restaurant, operated by the 19th Expeditionary Sustainment Command, was named the top Warrior Restaurant on the Peninsula in the 54th Annual Philip A. Connelly Award Competition Military Garrison Category during a ceremony here, Nov. 24.

“The Sustainer Grill is a high performing Warrior Restaurant and has a trend for being a fierce competitor within the Philip A. Connelly Award Program,” said Col. Lisa Rennard, brigade commander, 403rd Army Field Support Brigade, who was the ceremony’s featured speaker. “This trend speaks volumes of the Sustainer Grill staff. It highlights their passion, expertise, dedication, Warrior Spirit and their desire to be the best.”

The Sustainer Grill has won 13 Philip A. Connelly Awards at the local or Eighth Army level over the years and The Sustainer Grill will now go on to represent Eighth Army at the Department of the Army level Connelly Competition.

“Winning is a great feeling especially when you have a team that performs at such a high level and embraces hard work, dedication, and sacrifice," said Sgt. 1st Class Dianna Franklin, Sustainer Grill Warrior Restaurant manager. “To prepare for the next inspection we're going to lean on experience, the best teacher in life, while consistently performing as true professionals daily because success isn't owned, it’s leased, and rent is due every day. I think we will do exceptionally well at the Department of the Army competition. We are a great team and our heart is fully committed because this is what we love to do.”

The Sustainer Grill will be inspected by personnel from the Joint Culinary Center of Excellence, Fort Lee, Virginia, and Department of the Army in February 2022.

“This year’s Philip A Connelly Garrison category evaluations were very exciting due to our Warrior Restaurants wanting to compete and be nominated by their food program managers to represent their areas at the 403rd AFSB and Eighth Army evaluations," said Chief Warrant Officer 4 Jose Geronimo, senior food service advisor, 403rd AFSB. “The amount of dedication and investment of the commands and food service professionals was amazing. It is great to see our Warfighters continue to push barriers towards improving the Army in Korea Food Service Program.”

The 403rd AFSB oversees the Philip A Connelly Award Program on the Korean Peninsula.

The Philip A. Connelly Awards Program was established on March 23, 1968, to recognize excellence in Army Food Service. The program is named for the late Philip A. Connelly, former president of the International Food Service Executives Association. On Jan. 1, 2014, the Army partnered with the National Restaurant Association with the mission to build upon the high standards of excellence maintained by the IFSEA.
