Colonel Jon Meredith was born and raised in Montana. He is married to the beautiful former Ann Dunscombe (LTC, MP) of Wausau, WI. They have a son, William (seven years old), a daughter, Molly (six years old), and two Golden Retrievers. COL Meredith was commissioned as an Armor Officer in 1996 following graduation from New Mexico Military Institute. He graduated from the University of Montana in 1999.

His first active-duty assignment was as a Scout Platoon Leader with E Troop, 4th Cavalry (Brigade Reconnaissance Troop), 2nd Brigade, 1st Infantry Division, Schweinfurt, Germany from 1999 to 2002.

Following graduation from the Armor Captains Career Course, COL Meredith served as the Battalion Plans Officer and Battle Captain for 2nd Battalion, 8th Cavalry Regiment (Armor), 1st Brigade, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, TX. He commanded Alpha Company, 2nd Battalion, 8th Cavalry Regiment in eastern Baghdad during Operation Iraqi Freedom II, 2004 to 2005. After returning from Iraq, he took command of Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 2nd Battalion, 8th Cavalry Regiment. COL Meredith then served as an Active Component/Reserve Component Observer Controller at Fort Bragg, NC, from 2006 to 2008. Following that assignment, he led a Border Military Transition Team in northern Iraq in 2009.

After completing Command and General Staff College and the Army School of Advanced Military Studies, COL Meredith spent a year as the operational planner for International Security Assistance Forces (ISAF) Joint Command (IJC) Future Operations in Kabul, Afghanistan. He was then the Operations Officer (S3) for 1st Battalion, 30th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade, 3rd Infantry Division, Fort Stewart, GA. Following his S3 assignment, he served as the 3rd Infantry Division Secretary of the General Staff. COL Meredith deployed as the United States Forces - Afghanistan Secretary of the Joint Staff to Bagram, Afghanistan, with the 3rd Infantry Division. COL Meredith commanded 1st Battalion, 16th Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade, 1st Infantry Division from 2016 to 2018. He was the Armor Branch Chief, Human Resources Command, from 2018 to 2020.

COL Meredith’s military training and education include the Basic Airborne Course, Air Assault Course, Armor Officers Basic Course, Armor Captains Career Course, Army Command and General Staff College, and the Army School of Advanced Military Studies. He holds a Master of Military Arts and Sciences degree in Theater Operations from Command and General Staff College and a Master of Science degree in Occupational and Adult Education from Kansas State University. COL Meredith is a graduate of the Army War College.

His awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal (2nd Award), Army Commendation Medal w/V device, Valorous Unit Award (2-8 CAV), and Combat Action Badge.
