Modular Open Systems Approach (MOSA) is an important element of the PEO Aviation strategy and extends into all of our Project Offices. PEO Aviation is committed to implementing MOSA as a core part of how we both acquire systems and manage the fleet of systems to meet the MOSA Objectives and better support the warfighter in the future.

MOSA Summit 2024
The biggest MOSA event of 2024 is just around the corner. This year’s MOSA Summit & EXPO will be in Washington, DC on June 17-18. The focus is to demonstrate the evolved capabilities and maturity of products that align to the Enterprise Major System Components (EMSCs). Get ready to witness this in action!
Architecture Collaboration Working Group (ACWG)
APEO E&A initiated eight subgroups in support of the transition of the FVL Architecture Framework (FAF) to the PEO Aviation Enterprise Architecture (EA). These include Applied Domain Specific Data Model (ADSDM), Digital Engineering (DE), Cyber Engineering (CE), Airworthiness (AW), Digital Backbone (DB), Component Modeling (CM), Communications, Datalinks and Controls (CDC) and Key Interfaces and Open Standards (KIOS). For more information concerning the purpose and objectives of these subgroups, to join a subgroup, or join the ACWG please contact the ACWG Team: Email ACWG
Vertical Lift Consortium (VLC)
PEO AVN resources AvMC to execute a Cooperative Research and Development Agreement (CRADA) with the 275 members of the Vertical Lift Consortium (VLC).  The CRADA’s Joint Statement of Work (JSOW) addresses further research in: refining Architecture Requirements; defining a functional architecture; prototyping products; informing and refining material release process and researching Modular Open System Approach (MOSA) conformance; digital engineering approaches; and assessing architectures. Learn more about the VLC.
PEO Aviation Enterprise Architecture
The purpose of this paper is to present the technical details of the US Army Program Executive Office - Aviation (PEO AVN) Enterprise Architecture Framework (EAF) while describing its development status as of January 2024. The Future Vertical Lift (FVL) Program developed and continues to improve the FVL Architecture Framework (FAF) (Ref. 1) for use by FVL programs. The EAF is intended to be compatible with the FAF and to provide specific guidance to enduring programs. The EAF contains modeled content from the FAF and employs a technical approach that contains different perspectives for enterprise (i.e., PEO AVN) and program users depending on how the EAF will be used. As an architecture framework, the structure of the EAF follows International Standard ISO/IEC/IEEE 42020 (Ref. 2). The EAF prescribes the conventions, principles, and practices for the development of the Enterprise Architecture (EA). The EA communicates the technical, business, and organizational architecture of the enterprise for the purpose of enabling Modular Open System Approach (MOSA) (Ref. 3) objectives, such as improved affordability, increased readiness, enhanced capabilities, reduced schedule pressure, and reduced supply chain risk.
