CAMP HENRY, Daegu, South Korea – Col. Wheeler Manning, brigade commander, 403rd Army Field Support Brigade, and Col. Lisa Rennard, incoming brigade commander, toured Building 1685 and were updated on the renovation of the brigade headquarters building here June 9.

No Ki-chang, project engineer, Corps of Engineers Far East District, Southern Resident Office, provided an update briefing and project tour to the command team and other 403rd AFSB officials.

The SRO is conducting a $4.2 million complete renovation of the building that was constructed more than 45 years ago. Interior demolition work is under way, and is expected to be completed by the end of June, after which new construction will begin.

The work will include a near-complete gutting of building, leaving only a few interior walls intact. All new electrical, communications, heating and air conditioning, and fire detection and suppression systems will be installed. The building will also feature a revised floor plan.

The current occupancy date is slated for the end of June 2022.

“With the building being so old, as we progressed through demolition we ran into a number of unexpected and differing site conditions which we have had to overcome,” said Jared McCormick, resident engineer, SRO. “Demolition will be complete by the end of the month and then we will move into installing and upgrading all the new electrical, mechanical, and communications systems, as well as installing new walls, flooring, ceiling. etc., as part of the new floor plan.”

Interestingly, this is the second time SRO has performing a full building renovation for Manning. In 2015 SRO renovated and modernized the Defense Logistics Agency Energy – Korea headquarters on Camp Walker for then Lt. Col. Manning.

The 403rd AFSB change of command ceremony is slated for June 15 at Camp Walker in Daegu.
