FORT LEONARD WOOD, Mo. — People are our military’s greatest strength and most valuable assets, and our military families are an invaluable component of our team. During the month of November, our nation seeks to recognize their resilience and commitment through the observance of Military Family Appreciation Month.

Ultimately, service member readiness and family member readiness are two equivalent components of mission readiness. We cannot be successful as an Army, Marine Corps, Navy or Air Force without taking care of our spouses and children. If there are issues at home, our service members could be distracted during the mission and unable to operate at their peak capabilities.

The Department of Defense is committed to improving the quality of life for our military families. They recognize that housing, spousal employment and childcare are all real problems for everyone on our team. Through the signing of the Tenant Bill of Rights in February, the implementation of the Civilian Employee Assignment Tool and the expansion of Child Development Centers, the Army and the rest of the Department of Defense has taken numerous steps to tackle these challenges.

We want every member of our team to be successful. Military service is a shared sacrifice between our service members and their families, and they are all part of our greater MSCoE Team of Teams. We owe our loved ones the same devotion and support they have given us. So, during this Military Family Appreciation Month, take some time to say thank you to these behind-the-scenes warriors who make everything we do possible.
