As many Army installations continue to combat COIVD-19 and transition into recovery efforts by opening services, Fort Detrick is doing the same. On July 21, 2020 the Fort Detrick Chapel hosted its first face to face service since the health crisis began. The Catholic and Protestant service was held outside on the Blue and Grey Field at Fort Detrick. Roughly 50 parishioners attended the service which also fell on Father’s Day.
Those efforts to continue face to face services continued into this past weekend when the Chapel opened its doors and held its first service indoors after a 14 week hiatus. Although restricted to 25% capacity, roughly 38 members who followed social distancing and masks guidelines, enjoyed the sermon given by Chaplain Lt. Col. Gregory Jackson.
“Even though we have all this technology and can still deliver services to our members, it’s not the same. Everyone was so excited to be able to talk to friends face to face and interact,” said Jackson.
Fort Detrick Chapel holds Catholic Mass every Sunday at 9:15 a.m. and Protestant Service at 11 a.m.
