Fort Knox, Ky. – The Army has chosen Fort Knox to host one of its new talent management initiatives, which will bring about 400 senior Army officers to Central Kentucky throughout September to be evaluated for different command positions.
The new program, called the Colonels Command Assessment Program, or CCAP, utilizes a five-day series of physical, cognitive and non-cognitive assessments aimed at determining and ranking each colonel’s fitness for command and potential. During the assessment program, participants will test on written and verbal communication, interview with behavioral psychologists, and take part in panel interviews with senior Army officers.
About 180 Army leaders and cadre will travel to the installation as well to support the program and administer evaluations.
The program will amass granular talent assessment data, providing a much deeper analysis of leadership qualities than the Army has traditionally used to make selection decisions. The resulting data will then provide an order of merit that U.S. Army Human Resources Command will use to determine the best primary and alternate selections for targeted command and key staff positions. Past performance and achievements will still play an important role in the process.
The Army recently conducted a similar program at Fort Knox in January and February, called the Battalion Commander Assessment Program, which was a first of its kind. It evaluated about 800 lieutenant colonels and majors for command readiness at the battalion level.
Major Gen. John Evans Jr., commanding general of U.S. Army Cadet Command and Fort Knox, said the Kentucky Army post is an ideal location to host CCAP and BCAP.
“When considering the types of organizations we have here and the central location of the installation, it makes Fort Knox a strong option for these selection programs that bring in Army officers from all over,” he said. “Last year’s BCAP was a huge success, and I have no doubt the efforts of our team to support that mission factored into the Army’s decision to host CCAP here, as well. I’m confident our support of this important Army initiative will be no different.”
