Aberdeen Proving Ground (APG) will host its ninth annual For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology (FIRST) Lego League (FLL) qualifier at the U.S. Army Test and Evaluation Command (ATEC) Headquarters Jan. 25.
FLL is designed to excite fourth-to-eighth-grade children about science and technology, to build their foundation in teamwork and to teach them the art of friendly competition. Each year, Lego robotics are used to solve missions associated with annual themes. This year's theme, City Shaper, will challenge the children to think like scientists and engineers, as they innovate and solve problems, and identify ways to improve cities, towns, and places to build a better future.
Given the stunning growth of the program over the past eight years, FLL holds qualifiers in which teams compete for one of the 72 slots at the state competition, which will be held Feb. 23 at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County.
Below is the proposed schedule of events:
7:15 -- 8:00 a.m. Team Registration / Set-up
8:30 - 8:50 a.m. Opening Ceremonies
9:00 a.m. - 12:05 p.m. Judging / Meet the Teams
