ALEXANDRIA, Virginia -- The Department of Defense Education Activity's Kentucky Community superintendent has selected Dr. Jeff Pond as the assistant principal at Kingsolver Elementary School at Fort Knox starting Aug. 5.
"We are excited to have Dr. Pond on the leadership team at Kingsolver," said Superintendent Dr. Youlanda Washington. "He has a record of creating strong partnerships with families and communities, which makes him a great selection for our community. Dr. Pond has a deep appreciation for teaching and learning and is a strong advocate for students."
Pond began teaching in the San Francisco Bay Area as a physical education teacher and athletic director in 2001. He later spent two years as an assistant principal at Scott Elementary School with the Salem-Keizer School District in Oregon. He started with DoDEA in 2009 in Germany as an assistant principal at Mannheim Elementary School and then later moved to Wiesbaden Middle School as an assistant principal before moving to Kentucky.
He received his undergraduate degree in education from Western Oregon University, and earned his Master's Degree in Kinesiology from San Francisco State University while serving as the strength and conditioning coach and assistant track and field coach for the SFSU athletic department. Pond received his Ph.D. in Educational Leadership from Northcentral University October 2017.
Pond is married to Jenny Pond, who has worked for DoDEA for the past 10 years. They have two children, Lennon and Lucy.
The Department of Defense Education Activity plans, directs, coordinates and manages pre-kindergarten through 12th grade education programs for school-aged children of Department of Defense personnel who would otherwise not have access to a high-quality public education. DoDEA schools are located in Europe, the Pacific, Western Asia, the Middle East, Cuba, the United States, Guam and Puerto Rico. DoDEA also provides support and resources to local educational activities throughout the United States that serve children of military families.
