This month we celebrate two significant holidays. From 15 -17 February 2018, we will observe Lunar New Year, a major Korean holiday spent with family and friends. It is a tradition when Korean families come together to honor the memory of their ancestors. February 19, 2018, is President's Day honoring past and present Commanders in Chief of our Armed Forces.

During the Korean Lunar New Year holiday period there is a high concentration of vehicular and pedestrian traffic throughout the Korean Peninsula with major traffic delays and congested roadways. Road conditions are increased to RED to help prevent any potential road driving hazards. Have an accident free "safe" Lunar New Year holiday.

With any holiday comes celebrations and with many celebrations comes an increase in the consumption of alcohol. This obviously increases the number of intoxicated drivers on the roadways. Driving under the influence of alcohol is illegal, unethical, unprofessional and extremely dangerous. Remember, the blood alcohol content limit on and off military installations in Korea is .05 percent. I will not tolerate those persons under my command who choose to drink and drive, and neither should you.

I expect all Commanders, Directors, Commissioned and Noncommissioned Officers and first line supervisors to conduct thorough pre-holiday safety briefings with their personnel prior to the holiday weekend. Our achievable goal is no accidents, no serious injuries or incidents, no acts of misconduct, and no loss of life over the holiday period. Everyone should be trained in the benefits of risk management, be sure to consider the risks you may take.

Let's put extra emphasis on safety during the holiday in an effort to ensure our Soldiers, Civilians, and Family members return safely. I salute you and thank you for defending our liberties on Freedom's Frontier. Our nation is stronger because of you.

Pacific Victors!
