FORT RUCKER, Ala. -- Local ladies brought their game show faces as they "flamingled" and danced the night away during one of Fort Rucker's premier ladies-only events.
The Directorate of Family, and Morale, Welfare and Recreation's Girls Night Out returned to The Landing for the third time this year Aug. 18 where ladies were able to shop, browse vendors, get their photos taken, dance and even participate in the Frenemies game show where friends got to learn how much they actually knew about each other, according to Lynn Avila, DFMWR special events coordinator.
"I thought it was great the way they had the game show set up," said LaRonda Meyer, military spouse. "Some of the answers the ladies were giving really reminded me of me and my best friends, and I kept thinking, 'I should have gone up there and done that,' because I think me and my girls would have gotten every single answer."
The object of the game show was simple: three teams of two were set up on stage and each team was asked a question about one of the ladies on the team. It was the goal of the second friend on the team to try and get the same answer about their friend to see how well they actually knew each other.
"It really is surprising how much you and your friends know about each other, but I think that's one of the greatest things about friendships," said Meyer. "You're supposed to have each other's back and you can't do that if you don't know each other -- I think that's what this night is all about."
Having that night out with the ladies and building on those friendships perfectly embodies the spirit of Girls Night Out, Avila said.
"It's just a great way for women to grab their friends and have a little fun," she said. "It's nice to have a night out that caters directly to the women with shopping and dancing all in one place."
Emily Towne, military spouse, and her friend Jessica Harper, civilian, said they are no stranger to Girls Night Out and frequent the event as often as they can.
"It's really one of our favorite nights out," said Towne. "This is a great way for us to start our Friday night. We like to come out here, spend some time with all of these ladies, and do little shopping and dancing before we go out for the night."
"It really is a great place to meet up with your friends before you do something on a night out," added Harper. "We've met a lot of cool ladies here, too, and made a few friends, which is always a plus when you can make new friends in this area, especially for the new spouses that move here."
Aside from making new friends, Towne said it was also a good night to be able to see the different services that are offered in the area. The night out always features vendors from different businesses and organizations in the area -- from local stores and spas to medical practitioners and other services.
"It's just a great place to get an all-in-one," said Towne. "You can mingle, dance, shop with friends, make new friends and just really have a good time. I'll keep coming back as much as I can."
