Fort Hood, Texas - Members of the Omicron Pi graduate chapter of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, inc., visited the Robertson Blood Center at Fort Hood on Wednesday, April 1, 2009 and presented a plaque to the blood donor center for support of the Charles Drew Memorial Blood Drives. Omicron Pi was recognized as the top chapter in the multi-state district that includes Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, and Texas.
The men of Omicron Pi dedicate time and effort each year, giving back to the community and the Armed Services by conducting an annual blood drive named for Charles R. Drew, an outstanding physician and medical researcher credited as the "Father of the Blood Bank." By working with the Robertson Blood Center, the fraternity insured that blood donations would help the military community including deployed troops and their Family Members.
Chapter President Bobby Lynn and the chairman of the blood drive committee Captain Mark Douglass accompanied by members of the organization presented the plaque on Wednesday in a short ceremony. The annual blood drive has been a part of the fraternity's outreach for sixty-seven years and is a mainstay of the Omega Psi Phi's fifty-one-year old health initiative.
