GALVESTON, Texas (August 16, 2017) -- The Galveston District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers hosted the Summer 2017 Stakeholder Partnering Forum, August 15-16, at its district headquarters.

The Galveston District conducts semi-annual stakeholder partnering forums with non-federal sponsors, customers and agency partners to collaborate on best practices regarding several Corps programs. These programs include ecosystem restoration, flood risk management, maintaining and improving Texas coastal navigation systems, and regulatory oversight of U.S. waters.

"These types of engagements help to identify opportunities to better synchronize and integrate the district's support of stakeholder commitments and emerging interests for planning studies and assistance, preconstruction, engineering and design, construction, and operations and maintenance," said Edmond Russo, Galveston District, deputy engineer.

The forum serves as a unique opportunity for non-federal sponsors, customers and agency partners from the Sabine to the Rio Grande Rivers along the Texas coast to network and exchange ideas from the whole community perspective on ways the Galveston District is able to improve value delivery to the nation across civil works and regulatory business lines.

"We conduct these forums to engage in open and frank discussions on how the Corps programs and policies affect private industry and to provide private industry with methods and strategies to improve doing business with the Corps," added Russo.

Area experts from both the federal government and private sector presented briefings and discussed an array of topics addressing issues ranging from navigation to flood control.
