U.S. Army Europe's division-level headquarters deploys to Poland for Operation Atlantic Resolve

POZNAN, Poland -- U.S. Army Europe's division-level tactical headquarters responsible for the mission command of U.S. forces deployed in support of Operation Atlantic Resolve (OAR) relocated personnel and equipment to Poznan, Poland, April 29.

The Mission Command Element (MCE) for U.S. forces operating in eastern Europe serves as the intermediate headquarters for more than 6,000 service members conducting bilateral training operations and multinational exercises with host nation defense forces in Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Germany, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania and Bulgaria.

Last week, more than 100 Soldiers relocated from Smith Barracks in Baumholder, Germany, to Poznan, Poland, to enhance the mission command of U.S. rotational forces and units assigned to U.S. Army Europe conducting operations where the U.S. Army has not previously maintained a significant military presence.

The relocation to Poland places the tactical division-level headquarters in a position to rapidly project combat power across the European theater in support of NATO Allies and Partners and increases the MCE's ability to deter and defend against any adversarial threat.

The 4th Infantry Division, the regionally-allocated division headquarters for U.S. Army Europe, deployed the MCE to Europe, February 12, 2015, to enhance the collective security of eastern European countries, increase preparedness to respond to any threat or crisis and strengthen the NATO Alliance.

Since the annexation of the Crimean peninsula in 2014, the footprint of combat forces, logistical and support capabilities deployed in support of OAR increased to provide a rotational persistent presence under the European Reassurance Initiative.

U.S. Army Europe's "Year of Execution," 2017 introduced the increase in rotations of U.S. forces to Europe with the arrival of a rotational armored brigade combat team, combat aviation brigade and a logistics regionally allocated force deployed in support of Operation Atlantic Resolve activities.
