MIHAIL KOGALNICEANU, Romania -- U.S. Army Soldiers of the 497th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion (CSSB) will convoy approximately 70 vehicles carrying equipment from the Sanatoriul Agigea area of the Port of Constanta to Mihail Kogalniceanu Air Base, Constanta County, Romania, today.
The 497th CSSB will establish a logistics hub maintained by approximately 200 U.S. Army Soldiers in Romania to support U.S. rotational forces deployed to eastern Europe as part of Operation Atlantic Resolve. The arrival of the 497th CSSB enhances the alliance, improves total Army readiness and demonstrates the United States' commitment to NATO allies and partners.
The combination of active duty, U.S. Army Reserve and Army National Guard units will perform combat sustainment support tasks as part of the 16th Sustainment Brigade, 21st Theater Sustainment Command. The CSSB will be based out of Romania and will provide postal, military police, ammunition handling, movement, and other logistical support.
Headquarters Company, 497th CSSB, U.S. Army Reserve, out of Salem, Va., and Headquarters Company, 330th Movement Control Battalion, from Fort Bragg, N.C., will serve as the headquarters for the 15 other units deployed throughout eastern Europe in support of Operation Atlantic Resolve.
Operation Atlantic Resolve is the demonstration of the United States' commitment to the collective security of eastern Europe through a persistent presence and a robust combat capability to strengthen the NATO alliance, deter regional threats, and respond to any threat or crisis.
