SCHOFIELD BARRACKS, HAWAII-- The Tropic Lightning Ohana bid farewell to Brig. Gen. Patrick E. Matlock during a flying "V" ceremony held on Weyand field, June 17.

Matlock served as the Deputy Commanding General -- Support for the 25th Infantry Division, leading development of training and readiness operations, since June 2015.

"Fortunately for this division in walked Brigadier General Matlock, and he arrived ready to take on the roll of DCG-S," said 25th Infantry Division's Commanding General, Maj. Gen. Charles Flynn,. "He's made an incredible impact on our formation, our readiness and sustainability."

During the past year the 25th Infantry Division accomplished much including, Pacific Pathways, and restructuring a Stryker brigade into an infantry brigade all while supporting training and partnership operations worldwide.

"General Matlock is in it for the unit, he was in it for the mission, and he was in it for what the commander needed," said Flynn. "He takes care of his Soldiers. Sacrifice is his middle name."

Matlock had the experience to meet the challenges after serving with honor at his previous assignment as the Deputy Director for Operations at the National Joint Operations Intelligence Center.

"Sir, thank you very much for your exceptionally kind words, you're more generous than I deserve by far," Matlock said. "The best part about serving in the Pacific is the extraordinarily capable leadership teams within all the general officer commands."

The Matlock family looks forward to their next assignment in Washington, D.C., where Matlock will take over as the Director of Training at the Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff.

Flynn said there is no one better suited to take over training for the Army than Matlock and that he looks forward to the influence he will have on the service as a whole.
