FORT BENNING, Ga., (June 1, 2016) -- Faith Middle School held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for its new learning annex May 24. Although the new annex is still undergoing construction, it will be fully operational once school starts in August.

Darrell Mood, the school's principal, described the facility as a 21st century learning environment.

"It has been in the works for several years," he explained.

Mood said that the new annex will house a resource room, additional classrooms and a small gym area complete with a rock-climbing wall.

Eighth-graders Gabrianna Haywood and Carolina Lopez, who were given the opportunity to tour the new annex, expressed their thoughts on the facility they won't have a chance to use.

"It's going to be a great way to introduce the sixth-graders to our school," said Gabrianna.

"It will open the doors of creativity and imagination in their minds," added Carolina.

Gabrianna believes that the new annex will showcase all of the progress the school has made.

"I'm so glad they built the new annex. It's something completely new and different," she said.

"Another great thing about the new annex is that students with special needs will have a new spacious area to just be themselves," added Carolina.

Gabrianna and Carolina both admitted that they were disappointed about not getting to experience the facility for themselves.

"I'm sad that I won't be able to use the new annex. It's just so neat," said Carolina.

"I'm a little upset as well. But I'm happy for the ones who come after me that get to use it," said Gabrianna.
