JOINT BASE LEWIS-MCCHORD, Wash. (Dec. 18, 2015) -- For many families, the Sea Gals holiday show is as much a family tradition as sugar cookies and Santa Claus.
Each year, the Seahawks cheerleaders visit the base to bring a little holiday cheer to service members, veterans and their families. Close to 1,000 people attended this year's show at Carey Theater Dec. 12.
Mark Facer and his family attends the event every year when it is hosted at Joint Base Lewis-McChord.
"This is our fifth year in a row," he said. "We like the free giveaways, and we love the Seahawks."
Facer's 11-year-old son, Alexander, won a 32-inch television, which he said was going to go in his bedroom, as an early Christmas present. The family also walked away with a new vacuum cleaner. In years past, they've won a microwave oven and a barbecue grill.
The show is made possible by the Seahawks and the JBLM Army and Air Force Exchange Service's Holiday Show. Corporate sponsors donate hundreds of prizes that are given away during the show.
Patrick McGhee, exchange general manager, served as emcee during the giveaways.
Before the start of the show attendees line up outside and receive raffle tickets for their door prizes. Prizes include: televisions, iPads, Kindle readers, barbecue grills, Starbucks drinks, Seahawks' tickets, jerseys and gift cards.
Daniel Pipersky, a sergeant with the 63rd Ordnance Company, attended the event with his daughter for the second time. At the end of the night, they walked away with some cash and a vacuum cleaner. Although Pipersky admitted he didn't really need one, he said he's happy to see an event like this hosted at JBLM.
"The kids like the show and really like the giveaways," Pipersky said. "It's a great show. I think it's really cool to see them supporting JBLM."
After the giveaways were done, the Sea Gals Show Group performed to a mixture of holiday, country and pop music. They even performed a routine with kids from JBLM.
