FORT BENNING, Ga., (Sept. 2, 2015) -- Delegates from nine nations visited Fort Benning and Columbus last week as part of the Regional Combined Arms Symposium, held Aug. 24-28 at the Maneuver Center of Excellence.
Participant nations included Egypt, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Oman, Qatar, Uzbekistan and the United Arab Emirates.
The U.S. Army Central command led event was the last in a series of three RCAS symposiums.
The third and final symposiums focus was on the collaboration of partner nations to experience the execution of combined arms operation, said Lt. Col. Charles H. Auer Jr., G3 chief of current operations.
The symposium brought together the discussion of the two previous years - combined operations regionally planning at the brigade and battalion levels - to culminate in a better understanding among participating nations on the various tactics and doctrine that promote international military cooperation, Auer said.
"The purpose of these symposiums have been to improve ability to comprehend how each other conducts military operations and identify gaps for future training opportunities," said Col. Jeff Wyatt, chief of the theater security cooperation division at U.S. Army Central.
"(They) wanted to bring the symposium here again to Fort Benning so that they could benefit from all the subject matter experts - with various instructors who are associated with the Maneuver Captains Career Course and the Directorate of Training."
During the first three days of the five-day symposium, MCoE representatives presented discussions on a variety of topics. On the fourth day, symposium attendees participated in a group exercise where they were given a scenario and they worked together to formulate a mission plan.
"It is an opportunity for interaction - for seeing how the represented militaries work together, and getting ideas from everyone involved on how to solve a problem," Auer said.
The attendees also had the opportunity to tour the MCoE and the National Infantry Museum as part of their stay in Columbus.
