ARLINGTON, Va. (Nov. 12, 2014) -- The Arlington Ladies participated in an Army Wreath-laying Ceremony hosted by Maj. Gen. Jeffrey S. Buchanan, Joint Force Headquarters-National Capital Region and the U.S. Army Military District of Washington commanding general, at the Tomb of the Unknowns at Arlington National Cemetery.

Founded in 1948 by the wife of Air Force Chief of Staff Gen. Hoyt S. Vandenberg, the Arlington Ladies are volunteers who attend funeral services at Arlington to ensure that no Soldier, Sailor, Airman or Coast Guardsman is buried alone.

The Marine Corps do not officially have a group as they send a representative of the Marine Commandant to their funerals.

The women attend funerals rain or shine to pay their respects to the nation's service members that are being buried in Arlington National Cemetery.
