Contracting Team Leader

635th Contingency Contracting Team, Fort Bliss, Texas

Describe your current position.

I am a contingency contracting officer for a modular deployable contingency contracting team, the 635th Contingency Contracting Team, Mission and Installation Contracting Command-Fort Bliss, Texas. We provide both installation and contingency support to the 1st Armored Division and other major tenant organizations assigned to Fort Bliss.

Describe your passion for your job.

My passion for contracting is beyond measure. I take pride each day in providing contracting and business advice to the organizations here on Fort Bliss, ensuring that my team and I are all being good stewards of taxpayers' dollars. Being a 51C contracting officer provides me the opportunity to serve and make decisions in a capacity that not only affects the Army and the Soldier, but the nation and the people we serve. It is an honor to serve and to remember what we do each day which is contracting for Soldiers.

Tell us more about you.

I was born and raised in Mobile, Ala. My father and two uncles all served in the Army. I joined the military because I felt a sense of responsibility to continue the family tradition of proudly serving our fine country. Over the past 15 years I've had the opportunity to visit 10 countries, complete both a bachelor's and master's degrees, and more importantly, serve with some of the nation's greatest Soldiers. In my spare time, I enjoy traveling, reading, and participating in community activities.

How does your job support the Soldier?

I support the Soldier by serving as a both a contracting professional and business advisor through contract support and customer outreach forums, while procuring supplies and services needed for mission success. Additionally, I teach the basics of contracting (Contracting 101) to numerous organizations on Fort Bliss, including the 1st Armored Division, 32nd Army Air and Missile Defense Command, Fort Bliss-Garrison, and other tenant units. Conducting classes, discussion venues, and basic outreach sessions benefits both the customer and the contracting office from lessons learned and lessons applied in respect to our daily contracting operations.

What would you like others to know about you?

I truly enjoy serving as a contracting professional and I'm highly committed to my profession by continually providing consistent business advice to my customers, peers and subordinates.
