Buena High School Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps students retired approximately 60 U.S. flags during its third annual Flag Retirement Ceremony Sept. 11 at Buena High School.

More than 70 people attended the ceremony where the flags were burned, in the correct and time-honored tradition. U.S. flags must be disposed of through burning and should not be thrown in the trash. Buena JROTC students planned and conducted the event.

BHS boasts 201 JROTC cadets who attend hour-long daily classes at the high school where they learn about the Army, drill, train and do physical training, potentially in preparation for a military career.
