PETERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. -- Soldiers from U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense Command / Army Forces Strategic Command Operations Headquarters at Peterson joined in on the 238th Army Birthday celebration June 14 at Building 3 on Peterson Air Force Base.

As is the custom for the cake cutting, the oldest in the command at the ceremony and the youngest cut the cake together. Col. Gregory S. Bowen, deputy commander for support SMDC, oldest, and Pfc Elizabeth Bernat, a satellite communications systems operator with the 1st Space Battalion, youngest, had this honor for SMDC's Colorado Springs, Colo., headquarters.

Five Army World War II veterans from the Bruce McCandless State Veterans Home in Florence, Colo., were also present joining Army Space personnel in wishing the Army happy Birthday. The occasion also marked the casing and uncasing of SMDC's new colors at the headquarters in Huntsville, Ala., which was video teleconferenced to all of SMDC's major locations to include Colorado Springs.
