SCHOFIELD BARRACKS, Hawaii-- The 84th Engineer Battalion (Construction Effects), 130th Engineer Brigade, Family Readiness Group held a Spring Festival for the Soldiers and their families at Schofield Barracks, Hawaii, March 26.
The Headquarters Company, 84th Eng. Bn., commanded by Capt. Marcus Rivers, worked hard to transform their battalion headquarters into a colorful beacon of spring spirit.
All who attended enjoyed a tasty potluck lunch and cookout complete with Easter themed dessert and baskets of candy. Children were busy with an abundance of fun activities including a bounce house and egg toss.
"The Easter bunny himself made a guest appearance and took the time to get pictures with all of the children." said 1st Lt. David Karwick, a platoon leader for the 561st Engineer Company, 84th Eng. Bn., who was there to spend some down time with his Soldiers and get to know their families. "The Soldiers definitely enjoyed the event with their children and families."
Family members of the Soldiers were also appreciative of the hard work put into the event.
"The entire event was amazing," said the wife of Sgt. Corey Keglovitz, who attended with their son. "It was the perfect weather to enjoy some BBQ with friends."
The highlight of the day came when children of four different age groups participated in an Easter Egg hunt.
Even the adult crowd was able to enjoy their own version of an egg hunt. Buddy teams worked together providing directions to their partners who crawled through the front lawn blind-folded to find eggs. This entire event has become an annual tradition for the battalion and truly highlights the unit's focus of taking care of its Soldiers and families, as well as its strong Family Readiness Group.
"The battalion spring fest was a great event," said Sgt. 1st Class Francisco Campos, who currently works in the plans section of the 84th Eng. Bn. "It was great opportunity for the Soldiers and their family members to spend the day together."
His attitude seemed to be consistent among everyone there who appreciated the chance to relax even amidst the high operational tempo the unit has been sustaining in support of its many Soldiers currently conducting construction missions in Guam and throughout the Pacific.
