Army Sustainment Command team pulling together Army Materiel Command capabilities for Haiti relief
The wrecked Presidential Palace is just one sign of widespread destruction taken in by Army Sustainment Command's team on the ground in Haiti. Led by Col. Steven J. Feldmann, ASC's deputy commanding general for mobilization, the small group was on the move to the island nation within days of the devastating earthquake. Their mission is to integrate people and equipment from diverse sources and deliver Army Materiel Command capabilities to serve Joint Task Force - Haiti requirements. With technical equipment experts, contracting specialists and logisticians, ASC's team is actively supporting American forces and non-governmental agencies laboring to bring relief to Haitians in dire need of help. During just one recent day, the ASC team arranged for a CECOM logistics assistance representative to assist the International Organization for Migration repair its balky generator, while contracting specialists were adding to their total of more than 50 contracts valued at $2.2 million, more than half of which was spent with Haitian providers.
