January 14, 2010
FORT BRAGG, N.C. (Jan. 14, 2010) -- The 18th Airborne Corps and Fort Bragg will deploy a battalion with a Command and Control Element in response to the earthquake in Haiti.
More than 100 Soldiers from Bravo Troop, 1st Squadron, 73rd Cavalry Regiment, will deploy mid-afternoon today to support humanitarian operations in Haiti. The entire battalion along with a 2nd Brigade Combat Team Command & Control Element, approximately 800 Soldiers, are scheduled to deploy tomorrow.
The XVIII Airborne Corps Headquarters deployed a six person liaison team last night to SOUTHCOM headquarters in Miami to assist with the planning effort.
Our units are highly trained and ready to respond to crises such as this tragic event in Haiti and fully prepared to support the mission as long as required to do so.
Soldiers from Fort Bragg will continue preparations for additional deployments for continued support if called upon.
