FORT CARSON, Colo.-Approximately 200 Soldiers gathered in McMahon Auditorium to honor Fort Carson's recipients of Soldier and Noncommissioned Officer of the Quarter awards Jan. 30.
Spc. Julie Harrison, 127th Military Police Company, 759th Military Police Battalion, was awarded Soldier of the Quarter. The award for NCO of the Quarter went to Staff Sgt. Cedrick Stewart, Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 43rd Sustainment Brigade.
During the awards and recognition ceremony, Maj. Gen. Mark A. Graham, commanding general, Division West (First Army) and Fort Carson, commended the Soldiers who participated in the Soldier of the Quarter competition.
"The people who keep this whole thing running are the noncommissioned officers of the Army. Thank you for what you do each and every day," Graham said.
"When you do something, you've got to decide to be the best. And you've shown that you're the best through your hard work."
Harrison, who recently passed the two-year anniversary of her enlistment in the Army, won at the battalion level in order to compete in and win the postwide Soldier of the Quarter.
"I'd like to thank everybody within our battalion. To get this far, I had to have a lot of support," Harrison said.
Stewart said he, too, had a lot of help in achieving Fort Carson NCO of the Quarter, noting that his unit and his Family gave him the support he needed.
"I'm proud of him," said Tynshawnta Stewart, Cedrick's wife. "I knew he had it in him to do it."
Stewart also had a word of advice for other Soldiers.
"To all those young Soldiers out there, if you believe, you can achieve," he said.
Both Harrison and Stewart said that a lot of time and study went into winning the awards, and both plan, respectively, to compete at the next level of competition for Division West (First Army) and Fort Carson Soldier of the Year and NCO of the Year.
