Tuesday, July 21, 2020

What is it?

Department of the Army’s Management Office-Strategic Operations (DAMO- SO) serves as the G-3/5/7 lead for Army warfighting transformation by integrating, prioritizing, and synchronizing multi-domain, data-enabled warfighting systems. This new directorate supports operational requirements focused on the electromagnetic spectrum and consists of the following divisions:

  • Enterprise Systems
  • Mission Command, including warfighting mission area
  • Space
  • Information Dominance

What are the current and past efforts of the Army?

DAMO-SO was stood up to consolidate the warfighting transformation capabilities, high-end technologies and other skill sets. The February 2020 consolidation, reorganized DAMO-Cyber under DAMO-SO’s Information Dominance division. The organizational re-alignment ensures:

  • Policies and programs are resourced and executed to leverage the Army’s information technology, cyberspace operations, information management and data analytics.
  • Operationalization of data from the Information Age to the Cognitive Age, where data is collected, analyzed and leveraged to support operational decision-making across the Army.

What continued efforts does the Army have planned?

The Army will integrate new warfighting technologies, enhance training capabilities and conduct multi-domain exercises as a defined path to future readiness. Army’s modernization efforts will remain ongoing as the Army:

  • Continues to test and refine operating concepts, draw on emerging technologies, and anticipate changes in the operating environment. These will help meet the commanders’ needs as the Army balances modernization efforts with readiness over time.
  • Remains committed to the joint force of the future.
  • Continues to reform its business processes to keep shifting from the Information Age to the Cognitive Age.

Why is this important to the Army?

DAMO-SO supports Army modernization by digitizing and operationalizing data to support the objectives in the Army Campaign Plan. Reorganization to DAMO-SO demonstrates the importance of posturing the Army to treat data as a strategic asset, where data-driven decision-making becomes part of the Army’s DNA.
