What is it?
Former Capt. William D. Swenson will receive the Medal of Honor, the nation’s highest military award for valor, from President Barack Obama during a White House ceremony today. Swenson is the first Army officer from operations in Iraq or Afghanistan, and the sixth living recipient to receive a Medal of Honor award.
What is the Army doing?
The Army Public Affairs has created a website to honor Capt. Swenson’s heroic actions in Ganjgal Valley, Afghanistan. The Army Values, which shapes the Army as a profession, and the Warrior Ethos which is instilled in the U.S. Army Soldiers, is further highlighted in a visual representation on the website.
What efforts does the Army have planned for the future?
In addition to today’s White House ceremony, Army senior leaders will recognize Swenson, his family and friends during a Hall of Heroes Induction ceremony at the Pentagon, scheduled on Oct. 16, 2013, 2:10 p.m.
