U.S. Army: Ready Now

Monday, October 14, 2019

What is it?

The U.S. Army – Regular Army, National Guard and Army Reserve – is the best-trained, best-equipped and best-led land force ever to take to the field. The Army is ready to defeat any adversary, anywhere, whenever called upon, under any condition. The Army is ready now to fight and win.

What are the current and past efforts of the Army?

The Army’s priorities are Readiness, Modernization and Reform, and taking care of the People is a key element of each of these priorities. These priorities enable the Army to remain at the forefront of a changing strategic and operational environment.

  • The Army is building Strategic Readiness to rapidly mobilize and deploy the forces anywhere in the world and sustain the Joint Force for the duration of any crisis.

  • The Army is meeting the needs of the National Defense Strategy and building readiness for the future. When called upon, the Army will prevail against near-peer competitors.

  • The Army provides credible and capable strategic land power to the Combatant Commanders to prevent conflict, shape the environment and win decisively.

  • Highly trained squads and platoons are the foundation of the Army’s ready units.
    • The Army is investing in training resources and technology to increase training repetition, along with full-spectrum rotations, at the combat training centers (CTC) focusing on large-scale combat operations.
    • Collective training at the CTCs emphasizes operating in highly contested and complex environments, including increased use of enemy drones, electronic jamming, chemical attacks, command post relocations, indirect fire and realistic live fire exercises.
    • The Army increased training in multiple ways – maximizing training rotations at the Combat Training Centers, adding two culminating training events for Security Force Assistance Brigades per year, and increasing resources for home-station training.
  • Security Force Assistance Brigades (SFABs) directly support building and achieving capable alliances and partnerships while allowing Brigade Combat Teams to focus on their core warfighting tasks at their home stations.

These improvements will improve the Army’s lethality and its readiness to fight and win decisively against its most capable adversaries.

What continued efforts does the Army have planned?

The Army will continue to train the force, and generate ready units and individual Soldiers by:

  • Implementing the Army Combat Fitness Test and extending One Station Unit Training to increase the readiness and lethality of Soldiers.
  • Conducting realistic training to maintain overmatch against potential threats while building strategic readiness, consistent with the Army’s six modernization priorities.

Why is this important to the Army?

The Army is committed to wisely using the resources entrusted by Congress and the American people to enhance readiness and build a more lethal force. Readiness in the Army means cohesive teams who are highly trained, disciplined and fit who can win on the battlefield.
