Virtual job fair helps Soldiers, veterans

By Ben Sherman, Fort SillNovember 15, 2012

The second Heroes to Hire (H2H) virtual job fair will be held today from noon until 3 p.m., according to Debra Watts, Army Career and Alumni Program training services manager.

Fort Sill and Fort Hood, Texas are the only two Army posts participating in this pilot program that assists Soldiers and their spouses who are transitioning out of the military.

"This is a great opportunity for Soldiers and veterans to establish connections with employers, review available jobs and schedule interviews," said Watts.

She added that the event is open to Soldiers and veterans who have access to the Internet and that ACAP training classroom 12 in the Truman Education Center will be available during this time for Soldiers who require computer or network access. Also, ACAP counselors will be on hand to help Soldiers and veterans who may have questions or need assistance during this event.

Participants in the virtual job fair will be able to search through more than 100,000 job openings nationwide, and speak directly online with dozens of employers such as Amazon, Amtrak, UPS, Hertz Rental, Dow Corning Corp., Edward Jones,

Medtronics, Pepsi Cola Co., Sears, Union Pacific railroad, Wells Fargo, Xerox, Transportation Security Administration and many more.

Soldiers are strongly encouraged to upload their resumes in either Word or PDF formats when they register at www.ACAPh2h.jobs prior to participating in the event.

"Participants will be able to apply for jobs during and after the event. Anyone who has a computer and Internet access can register and participate in the job fair," Watts said.

She went on to say that virtual job fairs are designed to give Soldiers more possibilities for finding jobs with more companies. It also shows opportunities for Soldiers who are looking for jobs in other parts of the United States where they plan to relocate after they leave the Army.

The virtual job fair will be repeated Dec. 13 online and at the Truman Center. For more information contact Watts at 442-6428 or www.ACAPh2h.jobs.
