U.S. Army Garrison - Detroit Arsenal, Mich. -- This year's Combined Federal Campaign launches Thursday, Oct. 11 with a kick off ceremony at 10 a.m. in the lobby of Building 230.
Guest speaker will be Sarah Davis from Operation Homefront. Operation Homefront is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization that provides emergency assistance for military troops, the families they leave behind, and wounded warriors when they return home. The organization raises funds to provide emergency, financial, and morale assistance to families while troops are participating in a tour of duty.
"Our theme this year is 'Giving from the Heart','" said Kelly Rosenberry, chairperson of this year's CFC campaign. Even though the country's economic recession has had a negative impact on charitable donations in recent years, this year's campaign goals remain lofty. The goal is to raise $400,000 for local, national and international charities between Oct. 11 and Dec. 14.
A Charity Fair will coincide with the kick off Oct. 11. Many of our charitable partners will be on hand to provide information about how contributions provide aid to people in need. The fair will be held in the main hallway of Building 230 from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
"One of the best things about the CFC is that a donor can give by payroll deduction or as a one-time gift," states Rosenberry. "Donors can choose the charities they'd like to give their hard-earned money to or leave it undesignated."
The Southeastern Michigan Area CFC is the only official fundraising event for approximately 33,000 Federal employees located across nine counties in Southeast Michigan. During the 2011 campaign, Southeastern Michigan federal employees made cash contributions and payroll pledges to the CFC totaling $390,745.58. This money was used to support a multitude of charitable organizations that provide health and human services locally, nationally and worldwide.
The more than 2,700 charities included in the CFC support a variety of causes. Charities that help the environment, arts and education, humanitarian aid, evangelism and health care are available. On each pledge card, individuals can name up to five specific agencies they wish to support, or they can leave their donations undesignated. Undesignated funds are split among charities local donors have selected and given in the ratio they have designated.
