MILAN, Tenn. -- The Milan Commercial Complex reached a new milestone in its logistics development in August.

R&R Trucking, a transportation company specializing in the shipment of sensitive and volatile materials, announced its presence as the newest commercial tenant at the Milan site.

According to the plan set forth by American Ordnance, the ammunition plant's operating contractor, R&R's presence is the first step in becoming a logistics center of excellence.

"R&R transportation group is a very significant piece of the overall strategy for the marketing of the MLAAP," said Bruce Niven, general manager for American Ordnance. "We now have both the rail and the ground transportation covered, and both are available to provide services to our tenants."

Britt Locke, the civilian executive for the government staff, offered his stamp of approval.

"With this logistics center in place, the doors have been opened for more energetics companies to choose Milan as the site for their expansion," Locke stated.

At full capacity, the trucking company intends to employ more than 100 drivers and support staff at the Milan location. This employment would help to replace the jobs lost in the area as ammunition production moves to Iowa Army Ammunition Plant, also operated by American Ordnance.

Officials at the plant hope this announcement will send a positive message to help attract additional commercial companies to Milan Commercial Complex.

"R&R has the reputation of being one of the best in the industry and is already talking to its customers about the opportunity in locating here as well," Niven explained.

"Most importantly, Team Milan has set a standard for safety that R&R will continue," added Lt. Col. Norbert Fochs, plant commander. "In all our operations, whether storing, manufacturing, or shipping, safety is still our first priority."

Milan Army Ammunition Plant is a government-owned, contractor-operated facility located in Milan, Tenn. The plant is currently transitioning from a munitions load, assemble, and pack facility to a commercialized industrial site known as the Milan Commercial Complex.

MLAAP is a subordinate installation of the Joint Munitions Command. If a Soldier, sailor, airman or Marine shoots it, Joint Munitions Command provides it.
