WEST POINT, N.Y. (August 2, 2012) -- ABC's, 123's, crayons, balloons and lots of children having fun. That describes the atmosphere at Keller's mass school physical day, Thursday, Aug 2.
Approximately 161 children from the West Point community received their annual school and sports physical during a kid friendly, back-to-school hospital party.
"Our clinics are typically booked six weeks in advance for normal appointments which can really be an issue for parents who are new to the area," said Helen Schultz, Primary Care Department clinical administrative officer. "The objective of the event is to have one day dedicated just to school physicals."
In addition to the school physicals, healthcare providers from the Primary Care and Family Practice clinics updated children's immunizations and authorized medication forms in preparation for the upcoming school year.
"I was homeschooled last year, so I'm both excited and nervous about starting middle school," said Daniel Gonzalez, Pediatric Clinic patient. "Last year we had an appointment on a regular day so I'm really glad my dad made this one. This is really cool!"
"What a terrific afternoon," said Colonel Felicia Pehrson, Keller Army Community Hospital Commander. "Parents and children were streaming in and out of clinics, filling the halls with energy and enthusiasm. The event was incredibly well orchestrated and efficient, and made getting a school physical as pleasant an experience as possible for both parents and children."
The event ended with a surprise "thank you for waiting patiently" gift basket for the last patient of the afternoon.
