FORT STEWART, Ga. - Though the attraction may have been free ice cream for a year and customized engraving on just about any type of material, the ribbon cutting ceremony for Cold Stone Creamery and Graf X Factory was a success for those in attendance, May 18.

Cold Stone Creamery, known mainly for their specialty ice cream, is the first of its kind in the Army and Air Force Exchanges, said Angela Crowell, service and business manager for AAFES Fort Stewart-Hunter Army Airfield.

"Cold Stone Creamery brings a mixture of delights with their premium cakes and cupcakes," said Crowell. "They can also do special orders."

Graf X Factory, operated by Edward Horner, is making a niche with his custom work and designs. "We can do embroidery, heat transfers, laser engravings, T-shirts, vehicle decals, rhinestones, and just about any type of custom work," said Horner.

The first ten persons in line at Cold Stone Creamery were the winners of free ice cream for a year, which in essence is two free specialty ice creams per month. Those winners were: Hunter Gillon; Justin Stuart; Jill Graham; Daneshia Payne; Trisha Arter; Staff Sgt. Servando Sotelo, 82nd Civil Affairs; Sarah Cornello; Marie Ellenson; Keson Bostic; and Latwanisha Criss.

Franchise owner Chad Eads was on hand for the festivities.

"All of our ice cream is made in-house," he said. When asked about being on a military installation, Eads said things somewhat different, but yet the same. "It's still an ice cream business, but we get more business doing the daytime on the installation versus the evening/night rush off post."

After the ribbon cutting by members of AAFES and Stewart-Hunter Garrison Command Sgt. Maj. James Ervin, the new Marne Division ice cream was created. This one-time, one-day creation was created by Command Sgt. Maj. Ervin.

If anyone tries to replicate it, they should be sure to include sweet cream ice cream, cotton candy ice cream, strawberries, pineapples, roasted almonds, raspberries, blueberries, apple pie filling and top it off with a cherry. Yummy?
