YONGSAN GARRISON, Republic of Korea -- U.S. Army Garrison Yongsan in coordination with Korea Housing Management Company, Ltd. (KOHOM) will begin to install steel doors in family housing units on or about May 15, 2012. All hollow core rear entrance doors will be replaced with steel doors at Blackhawk Village, Eagle Grove and then Itaewon Acres with an expected completion date within 60 days.
Steel doors are less susceptible to damage than hollow doors and will also be able to endure more natural wear and tear from the weather and various elements.
"In light of the recent break-ins that have occurred on post, the Garrison is providing an extra level of protection for the Community with these steel doors at the entrances of homes." said Col. William Huber, garrison commander for USAG Yongsan. "We have also stepped up our security campaign and are reminding our Community members to please do their part in securing their homes by locking their doors and windows, and leaving valuables out of sight."
In more than half of the reported cases of burglary on post, the common theme of occurrence was an unsecured and unattended home.
Area II Community members also have the option of requesting Military Police courtesy checks if they know they will be away from their home for an extended period of time.
