KABUL, Afghanistan -- U.S. Army Communications-Electronics Command budget research analyst, Allyson Trapp, meets Brig. Gen. Khatool Mohammadzai, the first and most senior female general in the Afghan National Army, during the general's recent visit to the International Security Assistance Force Joint Command, Campaign and Transition Assessment Group, where Trapp serves.
Trapp is serving as an operations research analyst and assesses progress made with the Afghan National Security Force in the areas of training, independence exhibited on mission execution requirements in an effort to assess how self-reliant the Afghans will be once the United States supporting staff exits the country.
"It was an honor to meet General Mohammadzai, as she has met quite a bit of adversity as you could imagine," said Trapp. "Women make up less than one percent of the Afghan National Security Force, so it is a highly revered distinction to be the first female general in Afghanistan's Army."
Mohammadzai, 45, is Afghanistan's first female paratrooper with more than 500 jumps. Now, the general serves as the director for women's affairs in the Afghan National Army, according to an Army report filed by Spc. Melissa M. Escobar, U.S. Army's 22nd Mobile Public Affairs Detachment.
Mohammadzai has served in military forces for approximately 28 years according to one NATO report filed this past February. Currently, she is also serving as a deputy director of planning and physical training or a reserve force that is slated to be part of the Defense Ministry, according to a NATO report filed by Staff Sgt. Nazly Confessor and Spec. H. Marcus McGill with the 319th Military Public Affairs Detachment.
