ANNISTON ARMY DEPOT, Ala. -- Phillip Dean took the reins of a new office at Anniston Army Depot Feb. 27 as chief of the newly created Logistics and Business Development Office.
"This new organization will combine the Integrated Logistics Support Office with the Business Management Office," said Dean. "We are combining the expertise of both offices."
According to Dean, the two offices have supported each other, with the BMO bringing in new partnerships and work to the depot and the ILSO working to integrate those new missions into the depot's existing processes.
The ILSO also assisted in transitioning missions from other organizations through the Base Realignment and Closure Act.
Some successes of the ILSO were the Stryker reset and overhaul programs and the M119 Howitzer transition from Rock Island Arsenal, which was a BRAC move.
In order to support these missions, the ILSO had to weave the new systems into the processes ongoing here at the depot. This often involved the establishment of new facilities, such as the new clean room needed to support the M119 Howitzer program.
As the offices are combined, teams will be created to focus on particular areas of the workload. The LBDO also plans to have an individual positioned full-time at TACOM Life Cycle Management Command in Michigan to relay information from Anniston's customers to the installation.
"The full time individual at TACOM, which is our next higher headquarters, will be able to share our capabilities with customers as well as keep an eye on potential workload," said Dean.
Dean began his career at Anniston in 1985 as a mechanical engineer.
In the mid-1990s, he was assigned to the Industrial Operations Command in Rock Island, Ill., the predecessor of TACOM LCMC. He returned to Anniston Army Depot in the late '90s.
In 2005, he transitioned from the installation's BRAC Office into his most recent position as chief of the ILSO.
