ROCK ISLAND ARSENAL, Ill. -- The Department of Defense announced Feb. 9 that the current commander for the Joint Munitions Command/Joint Munitions Lethality Life Cycle Management Command, Brig. Gen. (Promotable) Gustave F. Perna, has been assigned as the deputy chief of staff for Logistics and Operations, U.S. Army Materiel Command located at the Redstone Arsenal, Ala.
In November, the Senate confirmed Perna's nomination for a second star. His new assignment is a major general position at JMC's four-star higher headquarters, AMC.
Perna arrived at JMC/JM&L LCMC in November 2010.
Brig. Gen. Kevin G. O'Connell currently is the Director for Logistics, Engineering and Security Assistance, J-4, U.S. Pacific Command, located at Camp H.M. Smith, Hawaii. No date has been set on Perna's departure or O'Connell's arrival to JMC.
O'Connell's military education includes the Quartermaster Officer Basic and Advanced Courses, the Combined Army Services Staff School, the Army Command and General Staff College, the Armed Forces Staff College, and the U.S. Army War College.
O'Connell's military awards and decorations include the Legion of Merit (with Oak Leaf Cluster), the Bronze Star Medal, the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal (3 Oak Leaf Clusters), the Army Commendation Medal (4 Oak Leaf Clusters), the Army Achievement Medal, the Joint Meritorious Unit Award, the Army Superior Unit Award, and the Meritorious Unit Commendation.
From its headquarters here, JMC operates a nationwide network of conventional ammunition manufacturing plants and storage depots, and provides on-site ammunition experts to U.S. combat units wherever they are stationed or deployed. JMC's customers are U.S. forces of all military services, other U.S. Government agencies, and allied nations.
