REDSTONE ARSENAL, AL --- Dec. 16, 2011 -- Army Materiel Command's Logistics Support Activity released the Lead Materiel Integrator Decision Support Tool to the Army Dec. 15.
DST is an unclassified, web-based collaborative tool the Lead Materiel Integrator will use to lead Army materiel stakeholders though the planning and execution of Army materiel distribution and redistribution.
The LMI DST software was developed at a record pace for Army software development, according to Col. Robert P. Sullivan, LOGSA Commander. "In less than four months, the combined team of logistics and automation experts has crafted a powerful modeling and simulation capability to assist the Lead Materiel Integrator in visualizing supply and demand dynamics, and making sound decisions regarding Army materiel distribution/redistribution," Sullivan said.
The software release, combined with Army Sustainment Command's assumption of duties and responsibilities as the Army's Lead Materiel Integrator Feb. 15, 2012, will change the way the Army plans and executes materiel distribution/redistribution, Sullivan said. "For the first time in its history, the Army is positioning itself to manage equipment in a collaborative, web-based environment that emphasizes efficiency and transparency."
According to Sullivan, the DST contains a powerful sourcing engine that compares all the Army's resources with all the Army's validated, prioritized requirements -- fundamentally matching supply with demand. Through the application of Army policy and leadership directives, DST recommends efficient materiel sourcing solutions. The LMI then vets these proposed sourcing solutions with all the Army's materiel stakeholders via DST. In a future release, the DST will track each approved action from initiation to completion.
LOGSA will continue to expand the LMI DST's capabilities, with future releases occurring every six months, until LMI DST is fully functional in June, 2013.
As LMI DST matures, the logistics community will realize additional business efficiencies and effectiveness by integrating functionalities of several existing separate programs.
"LMI DST is a work in progress," Sullivan said. "In the weeks and months ahead, LOGSA will work closely with Army Sustainment Command and Army materiel stakeholders to ensure all issues and capability gaps are quickly identified, analyzed, and resolved. LOGSA stands by ASC as the supported command and will continue to strive for excellence in logistics information technology."
